Description
The rare early bebe with impressed-mark "Jumeau" inside cartouche frame (see photograph insert) has pressed bisque socket head, grey glass enamel inset eyes with spiral threading, lightly painted lashes and outlined eye sockets, feathered brows, accented eye corners and nostrils, closed mouth with center accent line on lips, pierced ears, soft cheek blushing on very pale complexion, original French composition and wooden eight loose-ball-jointed body with straight wrists. The bebe is wearing antique costume comprising blue silk dress with lace trim, undergarments, ivory silk bonnet, leather shoes with ankle straps signed "2", and carries little fur-over-paper- mache dog. Signed "JUMEAU" and "2" on head and "Jumeau Medaille d'Or Paris" on torso. Emile Jumeau, circa 1878. 13" (33 cm).
