Description
Two bisque-head dolls with socket head, blue glass inset eyes, painted lashes and brows, open mouth, teeth, shaded lips, blonde mohair wig, five piece paper mache bodies with painted stockings and shoes, are arranged, unplayed with, in original box with decorative designs on the lids labelled "Le Petit Ecolier" and "La Petite Ecoliere" (The Little Schoolboy and Schoolgirl). When opened, the contents reveal the two dolls wearing original matching school uniforms, each carrying portfolio, along with school knapsacks, notebooks, maps, teacher's awards, pencils, and a metal glove. For the French market, the Etrennes presentation appeared in Paris department store holiday catalogs, circa 1900. 8 1/2" dolls (21 cm). 9" x 20" box opened.
