Description
Ernst Grossman registered the first jointed composition doll body in Germany in 1880 so this is a landmark doll for its body style, its facial model which is a direct reference to its French cousin, the Brevete model by Bru, and for its exceptional small size. The bisque socket head doll has slightly flattened solid dome, large brown glass enamel inset eyes, long painted curly lashes and brushstroked brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with wistful expression, accented lips, unpierced ears, blonde mohair wig with long braids, original composition and wooden body jointed at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, with very plump limbs contrasted by tiny ankles and feet, small cupped fingers. The doll wears original aqua cotton dress with purple velvet and lace trim, undergarments, shoes, woven stockings. Marked "O" on head, and E.G. (stamp, in circle) on body. Ernst Grossman, circa 1880. 9" (23 cm).
