Description
The bisque doll makers of Sonneberg created
beautiful dolls in the mid-1880's that resembled
the French bebes and this socket head model is an
example. Her bisque head has flattened solid
dome, and she has brown glass enamel inset eyes,
long painted curly lashes, feathered brows,
accented eye corners and nostrils, closed mouth
with accented lips, pierced ears, brunette mohair
wig, original composition and wooden fully
jointed body with straight wrists. The doll wears
antique blue cotton schooldress with embroidered
white pinafore apron, blue cotton sunbonnet,
undergarments, black leather shoes and socks, and
carries a small wooden doll. Signed "137 4".
Germany, mystery maker, circa 1885. 11" (28 cm).
