Description
The early model known as "premiere" whose facial modelling evolved from the Jumeau fashion doll is presented here in a very rare transitional model into earliest period EJ bebe. The doll has pressed bisque socket head, brown glass enamel inset eyes, faintly painted lashes, arched brushstroked brows, accented eye corners and nostrils, closed mouth with accent line between the lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, spiral spring neck attachment, original composition and wooden eight-loose-ball-jointed body with straight wrists and owns an antique costume (not shown in photograph). Signed "1" and tiniest incised letters "EJ" on head, and "Jumeau Medaille d'Or Paris" on torso. Emile Jumeau, circa 1878. 10 1/2" (26 cm).
