13" (33 cm.) Paper mache shoulderhead, black painted pate with center slit for insertion of hair wig, painted blue eyes, upper eyeliner, single-stroke brows, closed mouth, sturdy pink kid body. Condition: generally excellent, original painted finish with light rubs. Comments: French, circa 1840. Value Points: early poupee has original finish, sturdy body, rare hair construction, and is wearing original distinctive costume. Private collection Kathryn DeFillipo.
