Description
14" (36 cm.) including hat. The egg-shaped felt Humpty Dumpty has stitched-on ears and hinge-jointed short felt arms and legs, painted facial features, and stitched-on orange felt costume with white felt collar and buttons, matching hat. Condition: generally excellent, two little moth holes in hat. Marks: Humpty Dumpty Doll Trade Mark Ross and Ross Oakland Ca (tag on reverse). Comments: Ross and Ross produced various cloth and felt dolls during the 1920s including black Topsy doll and characters from Johnny Gruelle stories including Little Brown Bear and Johnny Mouse. Value Points: very fine quality of production on the little-known American firm, this example beautifully preserved with vibrant colors.
