Including a 14"h. stays for lady, of two parts with lacing at one side and hooks at the other, heavily boned with baleen whale bones, and of densely-patterned woven silk. And fitted cap whose silk is covered with thickly embroidered metallic gilt, trimmed with a border of lace and having gilt tassels at the crown, with stiff buckram lining. The stays and bonnet are preserved in an early box along with an early hand-written invoice from 1704 detailing fabrics and trims purchased for Lady Child of Wanstead House of Essex, and which include materials likely used in the construction of these two articles.
