16" (41 cm.) Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulderplate, blue intaglio painted eyes with thick upper eyeliner, painted lashes, brushstroked brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with accent line between the lips, pierced ears, brunette mohair wig over cork pate, kid torso and gusset-jointed arms. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: French, circa 1865, the fortune telling dolls known as "poupee a bonne aventure" were created as Parisian party amusements. Value Points: especially beautiful face with brilliant eyes, the poupee is wearing original costume of burgundy silk with gold coin and lace trim, black velvet jacket, the skirt disguising a bounty of hundreds of folded paper fortunes, each with hand-lettered ink script "fortune" message.
