18" (46 cm.) Bisque socket head with elongated very full cheeks, blue glass sleep eyes with spiral threading, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, brushstroked brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, open mouth with slightly-parted lips, two square-cut upper and one lower tooth, dimpled chin, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig, early German composition and wooden fully-jointed body, straight wrists. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: S&H 949. Comments: Simon and Halbig, circa 1885. Value Points: especially fine modeling for this smaller size 949, with very choice painting, original body and body finish, and wearing wonderful multi-layered folklore costume including lace bonnet, and leather shoes with mauve silk ruffles and silver buttons.
