23" (58 cm.) Paper mache shoulderhead with very elongated throat, black sculpted hair arranged with very elaborate pouf curls at each side of face, and remaining hair swept up and captured in unusual double loops at the crown which are decorated by sculpted black beads, painted blue eyes, heavy eyelids, single-stroke black brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth, slender kid body with wooden lower arms and legs, painted green shoes, antique costume. Condition: original finish on head albeit complexion yellowed and with craquelure on shoulderplate, patching on kid body. Comments: Germany, circa 1840. Value Points: exceptional detail of rare coiffure, unusual full shape of face on the large model.
