Description
12" (30 cm.) Sculpted plaster bust depicting a young laughing child with tousled hair, having well-defined features of eyes and mouth, with intaglio detail of hair, and with original light tinted details of cheek blush and lips. Impressed on the side "HWJ cc" and ink lettered on the back "Helen Webster Jensen cc". The bust is a plaster model of the child's head which was sculpted by American artist Helen Jensen and commissioned by the New York importer George Borgfeldt who created the sculpture as a doll in both earthenware and bisque variations, marketing the doll under the trade name of "Gladdie"; this early sculptural model is extremely rare to find.
