26" (66 cm.) Paper mache shoulderhead with elongated oval face, elongated throat, black sculpted hair with long ringlet curls in front of sculpted ears, short ringlet curls around nape of neck and a braided chignon at the back of head arranged in a double loop, painted blue outlined eyes, fringed brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth, firmly-set lips, modeled bosom, early firmly-stuffed cloth body, wooden lower arms and legs, painted red shoes with black outline. Condition: structurally excellent, light craquelure and over-glaze, touch-up on hair, cheeks and edge of shoulderplate, original finish worn on legs. Comments: Germany, circa 1840. Value Points: impressive presence of the large model, rare coiffure with elaborate details, original body, antique costume.
