21" (53 cm.) Paper mache shoulderhead with perfectly-oval face and modeled bosom, elongated strong throat, large dark glass enamel inset eyes, painted eyelashes and brows, strong aquiline nose, closed mouth with primly-set lips, very dark brown sculpted hair with strong comb-mark detailing waved smoothly around the sides of her face, drawn backward and forming into narrow braids that are coiled into a tight chignon at the back of her head, kid body with stitch-jointing and wooden lower arms with tine-shaped fingers, antique cotton dress, petticoat, and drawers. Condition: generally excellent, finish original yet rubbed. Comments: Germany, circa 1850. Value Points: rarity factors include glass eyes, modeled bosom, great presence, with blue ribbon award from UFDC national convention, Denver, 1978. Ex-collection Margaret Hartshorn.
