9" (23 cm.) Carved wooden head with gofun finish, tiny enamel eyes, painted features, elaborate coiffure of black silk arranged with crepe wraps and beko combs. Condition: generally excellent, silk frail on base. Comments: Japanese, Showa era, 1930s, representing a courtesan whose costume includes a very fine front-tied obi with Chinese bellflower design. Value Points: charming petite size, with beautiful facial painting, elaborate coiffure and all original costume.
