Description
16" (41 cm.) h. x 14"w. x 12"d. The ebony black lacquered wooden palanquin with hand-painted gilt decorations and applied gilded and silver medallions and trim, has long carrying handles which fold closed at the roof, and sliding doors which open to the fitted interior with floral-patterned wall paper and separate compartments with gold leaf carvings on the framework, and with windows shaded by Tsundere reed screens. Excellent condition. Japanese, for the Hina Matsuri Girl's Day Celebration, late Meiji era, notable for exceptional size and fine decorative elements.
