14" (36 cm.) Felt swivel head with mask pressed face, thick throat, hand-painted blue side-glancing eyes, black brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with row of painted teeth, stitched ears, black silk floss wig with long queue, applied horseshoe moustache, yellow felt firmly-stuffed torso and limbs, jointing at shoulders and hips, white stitched-on gloved hands. Wearing yellow felt shirt with black Chinese lettering on chest, blue felt tunic with red appliques, black felt skirt with blue edging, stitched-on black velvet cap with gilt embroidery. Condition: excellent, slight fading of jacket. Comments: Lenci, circa 1920, this exact doll is shown in Lenci, The History and the Dolls, by Nancy Lazenby, described as "extremely rare" and "probably painted by Elena Scavini". Value Points: the rarity of the early model is rivaled by its fine state of preservation.
