Description
14" (36 cm.) Felt swivel head with unusual square-shaped plump cheeks and mask face with pressed and painted features, pale blue side-glancing eyes, dot brows, accented nostrils, small closed mouth with downcast lips, stitched ears, weft-stitched exuberant mohair curly hair, firmly-stuffed body, jointing at shoulders and hips, separated fingers. Wearing pink and grey felt one-piece dress with scalloped edging at hem, one-piece undie. Condition: very good, few light spots at back sleeve. Marks: (first metal button at back of skirt). Comments: Lenci, earliest period doll, model 108, 1920, from the series of dolls presented in October 1920 Playthings magazine ad in which the dolls were named "Scavini Dolls" rather than Lenci doll. Value Points: very rare to find early model with original costume and metal tag.
