35 1/2" (90 cm.) Felt swivel head with amber-tinted complexion, pressed facial features with strong cheekbones and impressed dimples, painted narrow brown side-glancing eyes, black painted side lashes and high curved brows, black upper eyeliner, accented nostrils, open mouth modeled in wide smile with row of painted teeth, coral lower lip with accent dots, black mohair wig arranged in high ponytail held by an applique felt band at the back crown, slender elongated muslin torso and upper legs, amber felt tab-jointed arms and seam jointed legs at hips and knees allowing seated, kneeling or standing pose, fingers of right hand arranged to hold saber. Wearing original costume of vividly embroidered and appliqued felt and including rich multi-layered detailing of sleeveless jacket, tunic, and wide sleeved shirt, and with original wooden sabre with Japanese lettering. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Lenci, the character appeared in the 1927/1928 Lenci catalog as model 556, named "Kigan". Value Points: extremely rare Lenci from the early Asian series with superb modeling unique to this doll, outstanding detail of costume and accessories; few examples are known to exist.
