Description
10" (25 cm.) (excluding apron). Felt swivel head, pressed and painted caricature-like features, round blue down-glancing startled eyes, painted 3/4 round curly lashes, tiny curved brows, round nose with accented nostrils, closed mouth with wide lips, stitched-on black skull cap, the head attached to hollow costume and arms designed for use as hand puppet. Condition: very good, few moth holes in costume. Comments: Lenci, series 335/13 from a series of hand puppets shown in the 1933 catalog, the model is likely intended to represent the popular French storybook character Becassine. Value Points: unique painting of face enhances the characterization, original costume.
