20" (51 cm.) Bisque shoulderhead of slender-faced lady with up-tilted chin, blue glass sleep eyes, lashes, heavily-modeled eyelids, aquiline nose, closed mouth with center accent line, blonde mohair wig in up-swept fashion over plaster pate, slender kid fashion body with pin-jointing at hips and knees, bisque forearms, brown silk costume, undergarments, shoes and socks. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 172 7. Comments: Kestner, circa 1905, the model was based on the illustrations of Charles Dana Gibson whose series of drawings depicted the society lady of the early 1900s. Value Points: beautiful face, complexion, and painting, original wig and body. Attached to the doll costume is an old signed note "Irene, presented to the undersigned by Charles Dana Gibson in 1906, during his stay at his summer home, on Seven Hundred Acre Island, Dark Harbor, Maine" and signed by Hazel M. Witherspoon.
