Description
16" (41 cm.) Bisque socket head with elongated facial modeling, blue glass inset eyes with spiral threading, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, brushstroked and feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, slightly-parted lips, two square-cut upper teeth and one lower, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig, composition and wooden fully-jointed body with straight wrists, antique costume. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: S 919 SH 7 1/2. Comments: Simon and Halbig, circa 1880, the early model from 900 series was made with several variations including solid dome, as swivel head on bisque shoulderplate, with closed mouth, and this model with socket head, cut pate, and slightly-open mouth. Value Points: the rarity of the model is rivaled by its fine gentle beauty, delicate bisque and very fine painting. Ex-Susan Hill Collection.
