Description
14" (36 cm.) All-cloth doll of muslin twill with flat dimensional face, cut-out eye sockets with painted blue side-glancing eyes on cloth, tiny closed mouth, blonde thick yarn hair with tacked-on grosgrain ribbon band, stitch-jointing at shoulders and hips, wearing original blue and white checkered dress with white collar and borders, attached panties. Condition: poor/fair, very soiled cloth, yarn and dress, but structurally excellent. Marks: Original Alice in Wonderland Trade Mark Reg. U.S, Pat. Off. Madame Alexander N.Y. Comments: Madame Alexander, circa 1923, one of her first cloth dolls of which she later wrote, in reference to their flat-face features "the dolls were beautiful but too stiff and pokey". Value Points: rare early doll with original tagged costume, the actual doll is shown in Coleman's Encyclopedia of Dolls, Vol I, page 11.
