Description
18" (46 cm.) Paper mache head depicting Polichinelle, painted facial features, wooden block torso, wire upper arms and legs, wooden hands and lower legs, posed on a drum with decorative paper lithographed cover and parchment drum panels and with internal mechanism; when the handle at side is turned, Polichinelle tilts side to side, and lifts his leg up and down, while drumming sound is heard. Condition: generally excellent, small tear in one parchment. Comments: French, circa 1885. Value Points: original silk costume with gilt metallic trim, lace collar, bi-corn hat, gold bells.
