29" (74 cm.) Paper mache shoulderhead with oval face and strong elongated throat, black enamel inset eyes, dark eyeliner, arched feathered brows, Roman shaped nose with accented nostrils, closed mouth, accent line between the lips, black painted pate, composition arms with jointing at shoulders and elbows, separately-sculpted fingers, muslin padded upper torso, wooden cage form as lower body. Condition: generally excellent, hands retouched. Comments: French, attributed to Andrea Voit, circa 1840. Value Points: regal grand presence is softened by gentle expression on the rare early doll, wearing early costume with hand painted and embroidered details (see detail photo).
