Description
21" (53 cm.) Solid domed bisque socket head with tinted boyish hair, painted blue eyes in deeply-defined sockets, thick black upper eyeliner, arched single-stroke brows, closed mouth modeled as though open with defined tongue tip, composition and wooden ball-jointed body, antique costume. Condition: generally excellent, body repainted. Marks: Max Handwerck Dep Germany. Comments: Max Handwerck, circa 1910, the "dep" marking indicates that the model was registered by the firm, likely during the era of the art character movement of 1909, although few examples have ever been located suggesting its very limited production. Value Points: exceptional detail of modeling with unusual "double dimples" on each cheek, and laughter crinkles around the eyes and forehead.
