Description
23" (58 cm.) Solid domed bisque head with flat-cut neck socket, rounded facial modeling, large glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes and feathered brows, rose eye shadow, accented nostrils and eye corners, open mouth, outlined and shaded lips, two rows of tiny teeth, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig with original paper label "3", carton torso with mechanical clockwork, composition arms and legs. When key-wound, the bebe turns its head from side to side, waves arms and legs and cries "mama". Condition: generally excellent, mechanism functions well. Comments: Jules Steiner, circa 1885. Value Points: rare large size of Bebe Gigoteur, with original labeled wig, wearing superb original costume with label from Parisian doll shop of Au Nain Bleu, fabulous original bonnet and leather shoes by Alart with impressed figure of doll.
