8" (20 cm.) Standing upon a wooden platform is a paper mache peddler, with "nodding" head, sculpted and painted long beard and cap, painted costume in vivid designs and colors, holding a chicken in his outstretched hand which he appears to be offering to a nearby shopper. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: (original paper label on underside). Comments: French, circa 1850. Value Points: rare early paper mache novelty with beautifully retained original painted costume, amusing action.
