Description
8" (20 cm.) Paper mache head of kitten with hand-painted flannel cover, green glass eyes, pink nose and mouth, wire-spiral upper arms and legs, paper mache hands with flannel "fur" cover, paper mache lower legs, painted white stockings and pink shoes, original silk costume and holding a garland of silk flowers. Excellent condition. Comments: Germany, Zinner and Sohne, circa 1910, the doll is designed to move arms and legs up and down; the cat theme was favored by the Zinner and Sohne firm, and in their 1910 catalog they offered four different and amusing mechanical toy vignettes with cats. Value Points: most delightful character is preserved in all-original condition. This kitten doll is photographed and discussed in German Doll Studies, page 109 by Marianne and Jurgen Cieslik. Private Collection of Marianne Cieslik.
