Description
20" (51 cm.) x 17". Set under glass in its original gold leaf wooden frame is an early engraving of a nursery scene, made notable for the very fine embroidery work over the actual image, with the singular exception of the young boy's face which is "set" within the embroidery and lends a dimensional effect. The scene, itself, is elaborate, featuring not only the napping young lad who appears to have tired of practicing the nearby cello, but also a lone girl who stands facing away, and including numerous toys such as five different dolls, as well as toy animals, rolly-dolly, toy horn, and more. Excellent condition. Mid-1800s, an old penciled note on the backside indicates provenance from Vienna.
