17" (43 cm.) Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulderplate, blue glass enamel eyes with darker blue outer irises, painted lashes and feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth, accented and shaded lips, pierced ears, original blonde mohair wig over cork pate, all-wooden poupee body with dowel-jointing at shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees and ankles, swivel waist. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 4 (shoulderplate) A La Poupee de Nuremberg...Lavallee-Peronne Paris...(original paper label). Comments: the poupee was presented in the doll boutique "A La Poupee de Nuremberg" owned by Madame Lavalle-Peronne, described in La Poupee Modele as a "dollmaker of exquisite taste"; she presented her poupee as Lily, considering it her signature work. Value Points: the extremely rare poupee is impeccably preserved, with deluxe body articulations, original Poupee de Nuremberg label on both her torso and on the inside lid of the original trunk that she owns, and an extensive trousseau. Provenance: Collection of Louise Hedrick, the doll was featured on the cover of her book, A French Fashion Doll's Wardrobe, 1864-1874, and is presented along with the extensive trousseau hand sewn by Louise Hedrick, couturier, based upon patterns presented in the French journal, La Poupee Modele. The costumes include: taffeta striped summer dress; striped taffeta skirt with green silk polonaise jacket; evening gown with pearl dangles, dance card and antique tiara with faux-jewels; black satin evening cape; fur-trimmed quilted capeline; white pique dress with soutache; aqua cashmere demi-trained dressing gown, red silk gown with black velvet trim and black silk jacket; and red woolen gown with white soutache and matching caped jacket; extensive undergarments, night gowns, robes, bonnets and hair pieces, and various accessories. A copy of the book, with an inscription by the author, is included.
