Description
15" (38 cm.) Bisque socket head with very full elongated cheeks and delicately-tinted complexion, wide almond shaped brown glass enamel inset eyes, dark eyeliner encircles the eye sockets, painted lashes, brushstroked brows with feathering details, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with defined space between the shaded and outlined lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, French composition and wooden fully jointed body with unique styling, straight wrists. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 4/0 J.M. (and stylized symbol). Comments: Mothereau, circa 1880. Value Points: among the rarest of the early French bebes, with finest sculpting, bisque and artistic painting of features, original unique body and body finish, fine antique silk costume with matching bonnet, undergarments, stockings, shoes, and carrying wax head poupard in original cream cashmere wrapped bunting.
