Description
51" (130 cm.) overall including horses, 23" x 25" wagon. The wooden bandwagon, dramatically painted in vibrant colors of gold, red and green with embossed designs of chariots and crusaders, decorated wooden wheels, and labeled Humpty Dumpty Circus in gilt lettering, with driver's seat and being pulled by a double team of dappled wooden horses with glass eyes and original harness, on wooden wheeled platforms. Arranged on the bandwagon is the complete set of six bandsmen, with instruments including snare drum, bass drum, coronet, trombone, and halicon, along with the driver and with the Band Leader, each with original costume, wooden cap, and each having articulation at shoulders, hips, and knees to allow seated pose. Excellent condition, original painted finish throughout. American, Schoenhut Humpty Dumpty Circus, described by Keith Kaonis in his book as "the most flamboyant piece in the Schoenhut circus", the ensemble is extremely rare, especially in this remarkably complete state. Private Collection of Keith Kaonis.
