12" (30 cm.) Bisque socket head, large brown glass paperweight inset eyes, painted lashes, feathered brows, accented nostrils, pierced ears, blonde human hair wig over cork pate, French composition and wooden eight-loose-ball-jointed body with straight wrists, lovely burgundy silk and lace costume, felt bonnet, undergarments, leather shoes with silver buckle. Marks: 1/EJ. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Emile Jumeau, the earliest issue of the EJ bebe, circa 1881. Value Points: most endearing wide-eyed bebe, very fine quality of bisque and painting of the rare early model, fine original body and body finish, Private Collection of Louise Hedrick.
