Description
12" (30 cm.) h. x 18"l. x 9"d. The light-wood open front shop has an unusual three-sided back and two side facades that give dimension and a sense of greater size to the tiny shop. The walls, of cobalt blue paper, are decorated lavishly with gold paper borders and raised-construction gilt papers that suggest carving (especially notable on the side wall frames). There are two mirrors, and liberal floral and cherub decoupage. There are three curved-front shelves at the sides and back, and unusual stepped shelves at the sides of the front counter. An ormolu and glass chandelier hangs above, a porcelain lady doll stands in attendance, and the shop is fitted with glass and paper mache perfume and toiletry jars and bottles. The exterior has original old paper-covered surface. Excellent condition. For the French market, circa 1875. Ex-collection DeKleineWerld Museum.
