Description
4" (10 cm.) l. The all-bisque chanticleer, designed for use as container with open top, is decorated with colorful feathers, metal "wiggle" legs allowing the chanticleer to bob up and down in contemplation of the colorful eggs in a bowl at its feet. Peeking from beneath the chanticleer head is an actual human head. Excellent condition. Germany, Hermann Voigt, circa 1910, the fad of chanticleer novelties at that time was inspired by then popular satiric play, "Chanticleer" of Frenchman Edmond Rostand. This novelty is shown and discussed in German Doll Studies by Cieslik, page 107. Private Collection of Marianne Cieslik.
