Description
13" (33 cm.) The carved wooden sleigh is elaborately-shaped with scalloped-edging of carriage-body sides, curved rails that arch upward to support a plinth upon which is perched a carved wooden gilt lion. There is a wooden board at the back with studded brass plates, and a metal rod that supports the velvet-covered driver's seat. The passenger seat is also velvet-covered and both seats have metallic gilt fringe. The sleigh is accented with gilt striping, and there is a Holland painting on either side of the body, depicting a windmill and a ship sailing up a canal. Excellent condition. Netherlands, early 1800s. Ex-De Kleine Wereld Museum.
