Description
9" (23 cm.) Porcelain shoulderhead with alternate face on each side features an aged woman with greying brown hair, painted blue eyes, pronounced nose, closed mouth in gentle smile, and incised age wrinkles; the black bonnet enclosing her head forms into the black sculpted hair of the alternate face, revealed when the entire doll is turned around; the second face depicts a young child with blue eyes, plump cheeks, and curly black hair; on cloth body and wearing costume which appears appropriately frontward whichever face is shown. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Germany, circa 1885. Value Points: well-preserved doll with excellent detail of modeling, especially of older face. Private Collection of Marianne Cieslik.
