Description
18" (46 cm.) Bisque socket head, blue glass inset eyes with spiral threading, painted dark curly lashes, feathered brows, accented eye corners and nostrils, open mouth with upturned lip corners as though smiling, row of porcelain teeth, impressed dimples in cheeks and chin, brunette mohair wig, rare body comprising composition shoulder head on muslin-covered carton torso with wood-framed swivel waist, composition and wooden fully-jointed legs and arms with straight wrists, wearing antique Red Cross nursing costume. Condition: generally excellent, some wear on composition shoulderplate. Marks: 1019 SH 7 dep. Comments: Simon and Halbig, circa 1890, with rare 1890 patented body by Carl Bergner; when doll is held at hips and the waist swiveled, the head turns in alternate pose. Value Points: rare model with beautiful smile, fine quality of bisque and painting, and original rare patented body. An article about the doll appeared in German Doll Studies, page 170.
