Description
14" (36 cm.) Bisque face attached to paper mache back of head which protrudes from paper mache torso with pull-string mama crier, the bisque face with flat-cut neck socket, brown glass sleep eyes, painted lashes and brows, open mouth, four tiny teeth, composition and wooden fully-jointed arms and legs. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Gesetzlich geschutzl (stamp on back shoulderplate). Comments: Carl Bergner, who registered the doll in 1905 as DRP 164 535, with original detachable blonde mohair with which is designed to cover the paper mache back of head; presumably the doll might have been able to utilize different faces, or simply was designed for easy replacement of the original face. Value Points: very rare doll in perfectly-preserved original condition, including wig with attached earrings and chemise. The doll was photographed and discussed in German Doll Studies, page 172. Private Collection of Marianne Cieslik.
