Description
27" (69 cm.) Bisque socket head with plump rounded face, large brown glass paperweight inset eyes, thick dark eyeliner, painted lashes, brushstroked brows, rose blushed eye shadow, accented nostrils, closed mouth, shaded and outlined lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, French composition and wooden eight-loose-ball-jointed body with straight wrists, nicely costumed. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: F 12 G (block letters). Comments: Gaultier, circa 1880, earliest period of the firm's bebe; the doll originally belonged to a family that played a leading role in the construction of the first railway lines in Catalonia and was featured in the 1990 book, Poupees by Marco Tosi. Value Points: the exceptional beauty of the bebe is enhanced by most delicate complexion, original body and body finish.
