Description
11" (28 cm.) This first release Barbie has hand-painted face with original blush, well-outlined side-glancing eyes and V-shaped brows, closed full lips, pearl earrings, blonde very lush hair, original holes in feet for posing on the original #1 stand which is included (box has some wear but retains neck brace and cardboard brace for #1 stand). Condition: near mint. Comments: Barbie, Mattel, 1959. Value Points: the sought-after #1 Barbie is presented in her original T.M. box, along with four rare early costumes: Wedding Day set #972 with dress with TM label, with veil, #1 shoes with holes in soles, garter, short white gloves and bouquet with variation hot pink flowers (the dress was purchased in this fashion); Easter Parade #971, 1959 with TM black taffeta coat, apple print sheath dress, navy blue open-toe Japan shoes, short white gloves, hat and black vinyl clutch purse; #968 Roman Holiday, 1959, with TM label coat, sheath dress, hat, white vinyl belt, purse, glasses, navy open-toe shoes with holes in soles, comb, handkerchief and rare compact with "B" and powder puff; and #964 Gay Parisienne, 1959 with R label bubble dress, tulle hat, long white gloves, dark blue shoes with holes in soles, pearl necklace and fur stole. Provenance: the doll was purchased by the original owner's mother in 1959 while visiting New York for the annual Macy's Easter Parade, and has remained in the owner's possession until this time. A family video showing the owner with the doll is available to the buyer of this important treasure in perfect state of preservation.
