Description
8 1/2" (22 cm.) and 10". Each is all wooden with socket head, carved hair in center-part style with thick braided coronet encircling the head, painted eyes, brows, closed mouth, jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 50 1/2 6 (larger) 50 1/2 2 (smaller). Comments: Huggler of Brienz, Switzerland, circa 1920. The Huggler family wood carving origins date to the early 1800s, beginning with Kaspar Huggler, who was succeeded by Johann, known as the king of wood carving in Brienz, and later Hans Huggler who perfected wood carving artistry at the Academy of Art in Munich. Value Points: an unusual pair with matching hair styles and variations in hair and eye color, each wearing original factory costume.
