Nine wooden dolls are each hand-carved and lavishly decorated in vibrant colors and designs, including five flat-sided swaddling dolls with chip-carved painted black hair, painted facial features and floral and geometric painted body forms; along with two full-bodied flat-back figures with painted all-around traditional costumes; and two round-bodied dolls with sculpted hats and jointed arms. Structurally excellent except chip on side of one hat, original painted finishes with some paint scuffing on round-bodied ladies. Germany, Grodnertal, late 1880s.
