Description
12 1/2" (32 cm.) Wooden armoire with carved crest has opening front double doors and shelved interior; the armoire has original painted finish with colorful decorations including large flower-filled urns on each door, and hinges open to reveal shelves laden with bolts of sewing fabrics, canvas, and threads. Condition: generally excellent, some paint rubs. Comments: Dora Kuhn, circa 1920; the firm was begun by her father-in-law August Kuhn in 1911 in Munich after the Oberpollinger Department Store saw miniature furniture he had made for his daughter. The firm changed its name to Dora Kuhn in 1932 after his son's marriage. The furniture is noted for several signature designs including the Tolzer rose and the Kuhn heart (see on #89). Value Points: early example of Kuhn furniture with wonderful decorations.
