6" (15 cm.) Each is all wooden with one-piece head and torso, carved hair and painted facial features in the traditional Grodnertal manner, peg-jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, original costumes. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: S. Smith 1962. Comments: Sherman Smith, the American doll artist who specialized in miniature wooden dolls in traditional styles. Value Points: the pair includes rare model with so-called bee-hive styled carved hair and unusual laced slippers, and doll with carved yellow tuck comb, flat black shoes, and carrying a tiny all-wooden carved doll also signed S. Smith 1962.
