All wooden doll with one-piece head and torso, ball-shaped head, painted facial features, blue eyes with curly painted upper lashes, single stroke brows, nostril accents, narrow closed mouth with painted center line, blonde yarn hair in ringlet curls, jointing at shoulders and hips, large flat-bottomed feet with painted Mary Jane shoes. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: US Pat 140304 (painted on back) An original creation exclusive with Capesley Dolls Philadelphia Pa *patent pending/This is Melissa in her Summer Frock (paper label). Comments: American, 1930s/mystery maker. This doll and #252, 253, and 256 are each marked with US patent number 140304, which number does not correspond to these dolls. Value Points: a charming and curious doll of mystery, wearing original summer dimity dress and undergarments of the 1900 era.
