Description
3" (8 cm.) dolls. Still arranged in their original cardboard boxes with fitted interior boxes are "woodette" dolls in original unassembled and unpainted condition, each presented within original envelope with a picture of the doll, when assembled, and instructions. Condition: dolls and internal boxes excellent, exterior boxes worn. Marks: Woodettes, Trademark Reg. US Pat. Off Designed by Mary Alice Stoddard. Comments: the original Woodette set, designed by Stoddard comprised "The Little Family" of Mother, Father, Suzie, Sally and Tom, introduced at the New York Toy Fair in 1943; a later set, titled "Woodette Village" featured school house, grocery, farm, house, and police station with wooden doll to represent each. Value Points: charming sets with imaginative design that combines folk art with mid-century modern style, and important dolls in the origin as made "from what was on hand" during the war years.
