Description
12" (30 cm.) Each doll has one-piece carved wooden head and torso, painted hair with well-defined detail of carving at crown, simplistic painting of facial features, painted curly upper lashes, comma-shaped nose, closed smiling lips, jointed arms and legs. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: AMW (on head) Shorrock Doll c. Alice W. Wainwright. Marblehead Mass (body). Comments: Alice Wainwright, late 1950s, marketed as "Benjamin, a Marblehead fisherboy", the dolls are wearing original corduroy trousers, plaid shirts, yellow slicker, Sou'wester hat, and have painted black boots. Value Points: fine original condition, also is included a miniature Polly Shorrock kit from later period with doll to be assembled, and fabric pieces and instructions for making the costume.
