Description
20" (51 cm.) All composition with socket head, small spiral threaded eyes, painted lashes, feathered brows, open mouth, four upper teeth, blonde mohair ringlet curled wig, jointing at shoulders and hips. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: C.1934 Ideal Novelty and Toy Co (label hidden under the wig). Comments: Ideal, this was the first model of Shirley issued by the company (sometimes known as "prototype"), issued unmarked in 1934 only; thereafter the dolls have Shirley Temple Ideal N&T Co raised lettering at the nape. The first model has variations in modeling also such as smaller eyes and fuller cheeks. Value Points: rare and important doll, in wonderfully-preserved condition, wearing original organdy polka dot dress with wavy red banding, attached slip, undergarments, socks and shoes.
